Gyro-synchrotron Emission and Absorption in a Magnetoactive Plasma

چکیده

The intensity, spectrum and polarization of gyro-synchrotron radiation from an arbitrary distribution of electrons in a magnetoactive plasma are calculated. These calculations are based on detailed theories of gyro-synchrotron emission and absorption as well as on the equations of radiation transfer in the limit of large Faraday rotation. By performing extensive numerical calculations, for both isotropic and anisotropic electron distributions, we investigate the influence of reabsorption and the Razin effect on the spectrum and polarization of the radiation. Using the same formalism and calculations, we also investigate the possibility of negative absorption in an anisotropic gyro-synchrotron source. •NAS-NRC Resident Research Associate

Artificial optical emissions at HAARP for pump frequencies near the third and second electron gyro-harmonic

High-power high-frequency radio waves beamed into the ionosphere cause plasma turbulence, which can accelerate electrons. These electrons collide with the F-layer neutral oxygen causing artificial optical emissions identical to natural aurora. Pumping at electron gyro-harmonic frequencies has special significance as many phenomena change their character. In particular, artificial optical emissi...

A Review of the Applications of Synchrotron Radiation in Archaeological Sciences

The scientific research regarding investigation, characterization and protection of the archeological specimens is manifested through a notable participation of multidisciplinary subjects and experts, scientists and archeometrists. One of the main principals which are considered by archaeometrists in the study of the precious specimens is the utilizing nondestructive methods. As an example, in ...

Compton scattering of self-absorbed synchrotron emission

Synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) scattering is an important emission mechanism in many astronomical sources, such as gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and active galactic nuclei. We give a complete presentation of the analytical approximations for the Compton scattering of synchrotron emission with both weak and strong synchrotron self-absorption. All possible orders of the characteristic synchrotron spect...

Extragalactic Relativistic Jets and Nuclear Regions in Galaxies

Substantial progress achieved during the past decade in studies of active galactic nuclei (see [25] for a review of recent results) has brought an increasingly wider recognition of the ubiquity of relativistic outflows (jets) in galactic nuclei [5, 43] turning them into an effective probe of nuclear regions in galaxies [21]. Emission properties, dynamics, and evolution of an extragalactic jet a...

Simulating acceleration and radiation processes in X-ray binaries

The high energy emission of microquasars is thought to originate from high energy particles. Depending on the spectral state, the distribution of these particles can be thermal with a high temperature (typically 100 keV) or non-thermal and extending to even higher energy. The properties of high energy plasmas are governed by a rich microphysics involving particle-particle collisions and particl...
